8 Things That Set Music Matters Apart

At Music Matters Events we tend to do things differently in order to serve you better. Through our experience and by listening to your feedback, we’ve created best practices and protocols that set us apart from the rest. Continue reading to learn what sets us apart.

1.     Two Entertainers

The success of a wedding relies heavily on the quality of the entertainment. The quality of entertainment depends on the preparation of the performers and their ability to focus exclusively on their designated roles. That is why we wholeheartedly believe that two entertainers are paramount to the success of a wedding.

A DJs role is to play engaging music. To do so they focus intently on who is in the room and how the audience is reacting to the music. They pay close attention to body language. Who is tapping their feet or bobbing their heads during dinner? Who just jumped out of their seats and ran to the dance floor? Who is now leaving the dance floor? How long were they dancing for? The DJ observes the room and caters to it. Therefore, the DJ shouldn’t have to worry about logistics, timing, or other vendors, which will detract from their ability to engage your guests musically. A great DJ will usually think 5 records ahead, forming the musical journey in their mind as they read the room and guide the dance floor.

The MCs role is to keep the guests informed, engaged, and to ensure that all logistics are running smoothly. They become the coordinators for the day; they know when all formalities are taking place and keep other vendors informed. “Caterer, there will be two speeches and then we can bring out the first course. Photographer, in 5 minutes the cake cutting ceremony will take place. Banquet staff, are the utensil ready for the cake cutting?” The MC becomes the bride and grooms biggest ally so that the guests of honor do not have to think about any of the details.

By splitting up the roles of DJ and MC the guests benefit from a better overall experience.

2.     Interchangeable Talent

The performers will know how to execute their partner’s role. So the DJ will know how to host and the MC will be able to throw down on the decks.

By each performer knowing the duties of their counterparts, they can give one another honest feedback and keep each other accountable. The MC becomes a second set of eyes and ears for the DJ. How does the volume sound in the back? Can the audience hear the speeches? We’re ready to play that guest’s request, are they in the room? What do you think of this genre next? On a moments notice and without leaving the decks, the DJ can have those answers. DJ and MC constantly bounce ideas back and forth to keep your guests entertained.

3.     Separate Vehicles and Gear

Both performers drive separate vehicles and each brings a full setup. On site there will always be a duplicate for each piece of gear necessary to perform the event. That gives couples added peace of mind and confidence knowing the event will move forward no matter the circumstance. Of course, power outages or acts of God are of the few exceptions.

4.     Fully Insured

Some venues require the DJs to carry limited liability insurance. And with good reason, humans are clumsy and we carry large pieces of gear into elegant rooms. If your venue requires insurance we can gladly provide them a certificate of liability. We carry premiums for double the amount of what most venues require.

5.     Listen to requests

We love requests! It gives us a starting point to get to know you and your guest’s musical tastes. Most likely, if the song you’ve requested has charted in recent years, then we’ll have a radio edit (clean) version of that track. But what if the song is a bit more obscure? Then we’ll listen to it.

You’re probably saying, “Ummm duh!” of course you should listen to it. Well, honestly, not everyone listens to every request you make and ensures that the content is appropriate. That is something we take seriously and want to ensure that what gets played is edited and clean for the audience. What if a radio version hasn’t been released for the track? We’ll edit any questionable language out of the song so that it is playable at the event. The last thing we want to do is offend grandma because she's the cutest, isn't she?

6.     Meet with you in person

Chemistry is important in all relationships and we want to establish lasting relationships with our clients. As such we prefer to meet with you in person to ensure that we’re a good mutual fit. We want to feed off your vibes, get to know your tastes and ensure that we’re the best choice for your event. The only way to do that is to meet face to face. We want you to feel confident and make informed decisions based on real interactions.

7.     Create a timeline

The majority of individuals who contact us about performing at their event, have one thing in common; they want to party! When formalities are involved they want to maximize the amount of time they have to dance, enjoy the music, and party with their closest friends and relatives.

That’s why we take the time to create a timeline with you to get the most out of your day. We will listen to your vision and then together customize a timeline based on your preferences. We’ll guide you along the way, make suggestions of what has proven to be successful, and provide best practices to enhance the fun experience. Then on the day of the event, we’ll adhere to that timeline with some flexibility, knowing that we’ll always try to maximize the time you have on the dance floor.

8.     Communicate with vendors

On the day of your event, it’s imperative that all vendors involved communicate well with one another. Because you’ll have a dedicated host keeping up with the timeline, they will ensure that all vendors know what is coming up. If dinner is coming to an end and we’re ready to cut the cake, the host will make sure the photographers know ahead of time so that they can be in the position to capture the memories. If the salads are to be plated after the toasts, the host will make sure that the caterer knows how many speeches there are and roughly how long they will take so that the wait staff is prepared. These are the types of details that will ensure the success of your event.
